FAQ

Why do I need a Jump Starter?

The main purpose of a Jump Starter is to start your vehicle when your main battery has failed. Powercases has three light-weight Jump Starters to choose from depending on your vehicle engine size.

How many times can the Jump Starter on a full charge start my vehicle?

This depends greatly on the temperature and the size of the engine being started. However, for example a small car can be started 20 times, and a motorcycle 50 times.

How many times can the Jump Starter charge a mobile phone?

It depends on the size and current charge level of your mobile phone. However for example, it can fully charge an iPhone approximately three times.

How long will the Jump Starter hold its charge without use?

The Jump Starter will lose approximately 10% of its charge every month, we recommend recharging the unit every 6 months.

      How often do batteries fail?

Well-known automobile service clubs report that the number one reason for requiring roadside assistance is due to failed batteries. Average battery life has become shorter as vehicle energy requirements have increased. Two phrases we hear most often are "my battery won't take a charge, and my battery won't hold a charge". Only 30% of batteries sold today reach the 48-month mark. Ensure your safety, don’t allow a failed battery to leave you stuck on the side of the road while waiting for assistance.

      Why do batteries fail?

In fact 80% of all battery failure is related to sulfation build-up. This build up occurs when the sulfur molecules in the electrolyte (battery acid) become so deeply discharged that they begin to coat the battery's lead plates. Before long the plates become so coated that the battery dies. The causes of sulfation are numerous.

Batteries sit too long between charges
As little as 24 hours in hot weather and several days in cooler weather when a battery is stored without some type of energy input can cause battery failure. Furthermore, even if not exposed to temperature extremes, batteries without energy input will lose their charge quickly over time due to internal self-discharge and parasitic drain; which is the load put on a battery with the ignition off.

Continuous exposure to high ambient temperatures
Heat of 100 plus F, increases internal self-discharge. As temperatures increase, so does internal self-discharge. For example, a new fully charged battery left sitting 24 hours a day at 110 degrees F for 30 days would most likely not start an engine.

Continuous exposure to low ambient temperatures
Cold weather is also hard on batteries. The chemistry does not produce the same amount of energy as a warm battery. A deeply discharged battery can freeze solid in subzero weather.

"Deep cycling" an engine starting battery
Starter batteries can't stand deep discharge, each “deep cycle” of a starter battery will cut its lifetime in half. Undercharging of a battery to only 90% of capacity will allow sulfation of the battery using the 10% of battery chemistry not reactivated by the incomplete charging cycle.

      Low electrolyte level
Battery plates exposed to air will immediately sulfate.

      Incorrect charging levels and settings
Most cheap battery chargers can do more harm than good.

What is included with the Jump Starter Kit?
        • Jump Starter
        • Alligator cables
        • Extension cable
        • 4-in-1 USB cable
        • AC power adapter
        • 12V power adapter

What else can the Jump Starter do?

The JS400 can recharge mobile phones and tablets via its USB port.
The JS600 and JS800, in addition to recharging mobile phones and tablets, can also recharge laptops. They also feature a flashlight and hazard lights.

There are other Jump Starter products in the market place, what makes Powercases superior?

      Safety and efficiency
Powercases products are safer; they all include fused 7AWG gauge cables, which is double the conductance and half the resistance of the 10AWG gauge cable that is used by our competitors. This is important for two reasons: firstly, Jump Starters deliver a very large burst of power and if used with the standard 10AWG cable are prone to overheating and causing the cables to overheat and melt, potentially harming the user; secondly, because of the lower resistance of the Powercases’ heavier gauge cable, the full power of the Jump Starter is delivered to the engine, with significantly less power lost to heat transfer.

      Convenience
All of our products include a 3-foot extension cable, which can be hard-wired to the battery terminals for ease of access. No need to get out of your car and “pop the hood” on a cold evening, simply hard-wire the included extension cable to your vehicle’s battery terminals and feed the other end through the engine compartment firewall and into a convenient location inside the vehicle such as the glove box.
Not all batteries are easy to access, for example in many motorcycles it is required to remove the seat screws to access the battery; while in many transport vans the battery is located beneath the foot well. With an installed Powercases extension cable, access is instant.

      More power for your money
Several competitors have been known to miss-label and misrepresent their products contents and capabilities. Powercases delivers significant power in a small well-engineered package.   If we were to compare our products specifications against those of our competitors real specifications, Powercases would top the list.

      Customized Corporate Branding
Powercases offers free branding on all orders of a minimum quantity, please speak to your sales representative for further details.

      Warranty
Powercases offers a full replacement 1-year warranty on all of its products, no questions asked.

What kind of batteries are used in the Jump Starter products?

All of the Jump Starter products use Lithium Ion batteries. Starter batteries for all motor vehicles use lead acid. The advantages of Lithium Ion over Lead Acid are numerous, just to name a few, Lithium Ion batteries:
        • Are environmentally friendly, while lead is poisonous, and acid burns the skin
        • Are much lighter and portable, and have a very high power to weight ratio
        • Charge much faster than lead acid (3 hours vs. 14 hours)
        • Have excellent power retention, Powercases Jump Starters only need to be recharged every six months
        • Have zero maintenance, unlike some lead acid batteries that require electrolyte top-ups, and procedures to reverse sulfation build-up that can realistically only be performed by an experienced technician
        • Are much more vibration resistant than their lead acid counter parts
        • Can be easily recharged with an AC adapter or on-the-go with a 12V adapter, while lead acid batteries can only be recharged with a bulky standalone charger tethered to an AC outlet
        • Have the ability to charge mobile phones, tablets and laptops
